Learn more about the Alcotts from the Annual Summer Conversational Series at Orchard House

Progressive educator and transcendental philosopher Bronson Alcott realized his dream for adult education on July 12, 1880, with the establishment of his School of Philosophy, built on the grounds of Orchard House, his longtime family home.

Today, Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House continues the tradition by hosting the Summer Conversational Series each year during the third week of July.

Speakers include Mathieu Beau, Clare Comm, Cathlin Davis, Gabrielle Donnelly, Michael Frederick, Jason Giannetti, William Healey III, Kristi Lynn Martin, Julie Morfee, Mark Hamilton Ostrander, Roberta Pardi-Olah, David E. Storey, and Kristina West.

Among the topics to be discussed: “The Transcendental Child in the Works of Bronson Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau,” “My Life is One of Daily Protest’ – Revolutionary Ideas and Everyday Choices,” “Unlikely Heroes – Alcott’s Revolutionary Women,” “Prejudice and Inclusivity in the Alcotts’ Day and In Our Own,” and “Declarations of Independence – Celebrating Louisa May Alcott’s Contributions to Feminist Revolutions in Thought.”
