  1. Dear Susan: Please forgive me, but I do not know how else to contact you. I know you are very busy with getting your “Lizzie” book published, as well as your responsibilities as themanager of your website and your facebook, as well as all the other activities you have in your life; but I would love to  know if Louisa really referred to Lizzie as “My Better Self”? Also, in Little Women, Jo writes the poem/elegy “My Beth”, and Beth gets to see it, and is comforted byit before she dies, in real life in Louisa’s journals she says that in January of 1858 she wrote the poem,”Our Angel in the House” about Lizzie, do you know if Lizzie got to see it before she passed on March 14th? Thank you again, Susan, for all you do for us Alcott fans. Best Regards. Alex L.

    1. I would not be surprised if Louisa did refer to Lizzie as her better self, although I can’t swear to it. She did call Lizzie her spiritual guide (Cheney 102). Louisa mentions writing her poem in January 1858 but does not mention showing it to Lizzie. We can only hope she did.

      1. You are so scrupulous Susan. It is always a pleasure to hear from you! I am always so happy to hear affirmations of Louisa’s affirmations of her love and appreciation of Lizzie’s worth.Thank you so much for taking time from your busy schedule to answer my questions.Best Regards Alex L Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone

      2. Yes, Susan, it would be wonderful if Lizzie got to see Louisa’s poem; and be comforted by knowing how much she meant to Louisa & how much Louisa LOVED her before she died.

        Thanks again Susan.

        Best Regards

        Alex L
