Here are two articles I wrote that were published in “Discover Concord” magazine. My apologies for not posting the article from 2022 in a more timely fashion. I have been utterly immersed in my biography of Elizabeth Alcott (two chapters to go before I finish the first draft!) and therefore, have been neglecting this blog. When the book comes out, I will be putting much more time into this website, and include many interesting articles related to the book. Stay tuned!
“Alcott as Their Muse: Little Women’s Legacy Honored by Contemporary Authors”
The mark of a true classic is its staying power. Over 150 years after publication, Little Women is still a very popular book. Over the years, many novels and non-fiction publications have been inspired by Alcott’s book – the one she did want to write!
In this article I profile authors Heidi Chiavaroli, Virginia Kantra, Sarah Miller, and Barbara Keller on their works and how Little Women played a central role.

“Beyond Words: The Depth of Louisa May Alcott’s Legacy”
In this article (originally suggested by Jan Turnquist, Executive Director of Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House), I reveal the strong connections that people have made with Louisa and how this has shaped their lives. Several well-known Alcott biographers are mentioned along with people like myself who have been passionate about the Alcotts all our lives.
I wish to thank Jan for proposing this story and for her enthusiastic collaboration.
